About
Stable Diffusion WebUI Forge is an optimized platform that lllyasviel, the author of ControlNet, built on top of the AUTOMATIC1111 web UI to speed up inference, improve resource management, and incubate experimental features; the name nods to Minecraft Forge. Its main technical contribution is a rewritten GPU memory management system with a GPU weight slider and asynchronous model offloading, which lowers VRAM requirements substantially on smaller cards. Forge added early support for newer model families including SDXL, SD3, and FLUX, along with quantized formats such as BitsandBytes NF4 and GGUF, integrated ControlNets and IP-Adapters, and a modular UnetPatcher architecture that makes patches like FreeU easier to implement. Based on SD-WebUI 1.10.1 and periodically synchronized with upstream, it reuses existing checkpoints and many extensions. Released under the AGPL-3.0 license, it is popular with AI artists and hobbyists running diffusion models on limited hardware.
