Upscayl
Free open-source AI image upscaler for Linux, macOS, and Windows.
About
Upscayl brings AI image upscaling to the desktop as a free, open source application for Linux, macOS, and Windows. It enlarges low-resolution images using Real-ESRGAN and related models running on an NCNN Vulkan backend, which means it works on any Vulkan-capable GPU rather than requiring CUDA or an NVIDIA card, though a dedicated GPU is expected and most integrated graphics are unsupported. The interface is a simple pick-an-image, pick-a-model workflow with batch processing for whole folders, selectable scale factors, and support for community-contributed custom models; a companion CLI, upscayl-ncnn, serves scripted use. Packages ship as AppImage, Flatpak, Snap, DEB, and RPM on Linux plus standard installers for macOS 12 and later and Windows 10 and later. The project is licensed under AGPL-3.0. Photographers, archivists, and designers use it to restore small or pixelated images locally without uploading anything to a cloud service, though it cannot fix out-of-focus photos.
